Message sent to observers

· Jesus Delgado (obs. station Z73; not a member of this our group) has contacted me about his recent observations of (347) Pariana. In a few of his 12 sessions for this object, there are present suspect deviations that might be attenuations in a binary system. See following very tentative lc decompositions of the three blocks of his data:
https://www.asu.cas.cz/~asteroid/00347_2023a_p1.png
https://www.asu.cas.cz/~asteroid/00347_2023a_p2.png
https://www.asu.cas.cz/~asteroid/00347_2023b_p1.png

https://www.asu.cas.cz/~asteroid/00347_2023c_p1.png
https://www.asu.cas.cz/~asteroid/00347_2023c_p2.png

More thorough high-quality data (errors 0.01 mag) are needed to confirm. Jesus cannot take such high quality data for the object in this month and he would appreciate a help by observers from this our group.

· Russ Durkee has observed this target on two nights, found it to be a binary suspect. A tentative lc decomposition:
https://www.asu.cas.cz/~asteroid/06108_2023b_p1.png

(The period in the 2nd plot above was set just for plotting purpose. There is no real solution for P_orb yet.)

More data are needed to confirm it.

· This new target was observed by Vladimir Benishek from Sopot and by Russ Durkee from Shed of Science South. It has two additive periods and there were superimposed two deep attenuations on February 6.1 and 9.1 suggesting mutual events with a longer period, see
http://www.asu.cas.cz/~asteroid/08167_2021a_p1.png
http://www.asu.cas.cz/~asteroid/08167_2021a_p2.png
It is a serious binary (and possible ternary) candidate, but it needs to be established with high-quality thorough observations in the future.

· More observations by Vladimir Benishek from Sopot and by Russ Rurkee from Shed of Science South have led to an apparently unique solution for both rotational periods. Russ also catched on February 6 what appears to be an event (with a longer period), see the x-ed points in following plots:
http://www.asu.cas.cz/~asteroid/08167_2021a_p1.png
http://www.asu.cas.cz/~asteroid/08167_2021a_p2.png

· Our discovery announcement on this one has appeared on CBET 4158, attached below for your convenience.

Cheers, Petr

(4272) ENTSUJI
V. Benishek, Belgrade Astronomical Observatory; J. Pollock, D. Caton,
and R. Hawkins, Appalachian State University; P. Pravec, Ondrejov
Observatory; D. Pray, Sugarloaf Mountain Observatory, South Deerfield, MA,
U.S.A.; V. Chiorny, Kharkiv Observatory; D. Reichart and J. Haislip,
University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; and A. Smith, Gemini North,
report that photometric observations obtained during Sept. 14-Oct. 15
reveal that minor planet (4272) is a binary system with an orbital period
of 15.945 ± 0.006 hr. The primary shows a period of 2.8087 ± 0.0002 hr
and has a lightcurve amplitude of 0.06 mag at solar phases 4-9 degrees,
suggesting a nearly spheroidal shape. Mutual eclipse/occultation events
that are 0.03- to 0.08-magnitude deep indicate the secondary-to-primary
mean-diameter ratio of 0.18.

· Vladimir Benishek and Joe Pollock took first observations for this new target. There is a feature in the data that may be an event in a binary asteroid. A very tentative decomposition of the data (but it may be wrong, and P_orb is actually not determined, of course):

· 2008 FU6 is currently relatively bright. It is at 18.0 tonight and will reach 17.9 on 3/27. This is the brightest it will be until about 2026. It is well placed in the sky being above 2 air masses for 8 hours from Chile and is in an uncrowded area as well. At Dec -7 it is available from both hemispheres. Also, the moon is rapidly diminishing. I plan to make extensive observations of it with Prompt and Petr has indicated that they will try to get some data with the DK154. · Joe Polock has found this Apollo asteroid to be a serious binary suspect. His two nights 2011-04-04 and 05 with Prompt showed what appears to be a mutual event. The primary's rotation component has not been well revealed with its data, which hampers interpretation, but two values for the orbit period are possible: 22.5 h and 44-45 hours. Below I give an events ephemeris for the shorter period. More observations from stations spread in longitude and preferrably with a higher photometric accuracy are needed to establish the orbital as well as the primary lightcurve component.
